  1. What would you do as a Congressional representative to address the region’s transportation issues?

We need to shift from the automobile as the primary means of transportation to a high-speed interurban rail system.  Such as system in the lower Puget Sound region would cost $20 billion and solve the traffic problems for those who choose to drive without building any more roads.  We should impose an oil import tariff of $20 a barrel, which would wean us off foreign oil.  The $90 billion a year raised could amortize such rail systems in every major metropolitan area.

  1. What would you do in Congress to help foster economic recovery in Washington state?

We should shave $300 billion off the defense budget and use the money to capitalize a new physical economic infrastructure.  $10 billion a year of capital improvements in Washington would be backed by such a federal lending program.  These would include wind turbine farms to supply clean alternative energy, a superconducting grid to move electrical power without loss, a high-speed Maglev to allow easy travel between Eastern and Western Washington, a new water system which will allow us eventually to breach all of the dams.  These projects would eliminate unemployment.

  1. In which areas, if any, would you propose budget reductions and in which areas, if any do you believe spending should be increased?

Government should not be involved in education, since education is a modern form of religion, and the State should be separate from religion. $50 billion a year could be saved by shutting down the Dept. of Education.  Government already takes in $1 trillion to spend on healthcare, yet most of it is wasted. We should set up a National Healthcare Program available to every citizen.  It will initially cost more in taxes, but eventually cut costs in half and provide us with longer lives and a more just society.
