According to Wollhandler and Himmelstein, the public cost of healthcare in the U.S. (60% of total healthcare costs) exceeds the total cost of healthcare in every other country except for Switzerland.  Since we are already paying for it collectively already , we should just adopt a system

which works better than ours does in terms of life expectancy and save the other 40% we are paying for privately.   This year, the US will spend about $1.5 trillion dollars on healthcare, so we would save $600 billion by adoption of a system like that of the rest of the advanced industrial countries.    According to the WHO, our heath as measured in terms of Disability Adjusted Life Expectancy is ranked 24th, despite wasting $600 billion a year.
